Lakers Keep Rolling With 5-2 Victory over Cortland

The Oswego State Lakers keep there hot play going with a 5-2 victory over the Cortland Red Dragons at Alumni Arena this evening. Before a crowd of 733 people at the rink the Lakers got off to a good start with a powerplay goal from Chris Laganiere less than 3 minutes into the hockey game. Jon Whitelaw and Eric Selleck drew the assists. However Cortland would eventually even this contest up at 4:51 on a Jake Saville powerplay goal. So both teams connect on the Power Play to even the score at 1. Moving on to the 2nd period, the Lakers take the lead at the 4:15 mark with a Power Play goal from Stephen Mallaro, his second goal of the season, with Selleck and Fox getting the assists. The Lakers then stretch the lead to 3-1 at the 5:30 mark when the birthday boy Neil Musselwhite scores short handed. That goal was set up by Kevin Huinink. Oswego would stretch the lead to 4-1 before the end of the period on there only even strength goal of the night coming from Justin Fox. Selleck and Laganiere drew the assists. The icing on the cake came at the 14:30 mark of the 3rd period when Stephen Mallaro netted his second power play goal of the night this time being set up by Fox and Whitelaw. Kyle Gunn-Taylor was in net again tonight and made 16 saves allowing only the one goal. Oswego special teams was a big factor tonight in the victory as they went 3 for 6 on the power play, socred one short handed and killed off 6 of 7 Cortland power plays. Oswego's longest road trip of the season concluded with a 5-1 record on the trip the only loss coming at the hands of Elmira a month ago. The Lakers are back out on the Ice tomorrow night at 7 against Utica at home.
