The Lakers started the 2009-2010 off with a very big bang after a huge 7-3 victory over Royal Military College of Canada. First period started off as sort of a feeling out period with both teams trying to set the tone for the game. Paul Beckwith started the game between the pipes and had a near period making 7 saves on 8 shots. The only shot to beat him was a Robert Graydon at the 17:15 mark. The scoring however was started by the Lakers when Brad Dormidy finished off a beautiful passing play with the set up coming from Neil Musselwhite and Tyler Limebrock. The lead was increased to 2-0 with Chris Ayotte netting his first college goal. Then RMC made it 2-1 on the Graydon goal.
We move to the second period where Beckwith was replaced by Kyle Gunn-Taylor. Taylor came in faced 5 shots and let up one goal. That one goal tied the game at 2. Then with 6 minutes to go in the period Matt Singleton scored his first goal in Laker green and gold. Captain Tyler Lyon Set him up. We move to the 3rd period and Freshman Dan Jones got his first taste of college hockey in net and had a good period allowing one goal on 5 shots. The Lakers explode in the 3rd with 4 goals in the period. The goal scorers were Luke Moodie (Pictured above), Jon Whitelaw, Chris Laganier, and Tyler Limebrock. 5 of the goals came from freshman to the team. Jon Whitelaw had a 3 point night with a goal and 2 assists, Dormiedy had 1 helper and Musselwhite had 2 assists. The Lakers start their conferance schedule on Friday October 23rd at home against the Elmira Soaring Eagles and then travel to Elmira the following night. From the first game the Lakers look like they are ready to make a run at the national championship chase and this was a statement game.
