Oswego finally snapps losing skid against Plattsburgh with 5-2 victory

At Long Long last the losing streak against the Plattsburgh State Cardinals is finally over. Tonight Oswego walked out of Stafford Ice Arena in Plattsburgh with a 5-2 victory. Eric Selleck got the scoring started with a power play goal at 15:39 of the 1st period with Chris Laganiere and Stephen Mallaro getting the assists. Jon Whitelaw extended the lead to 2-0 with a powerplay goal of his own at 16:57 with the helpers coming from Justin Fox and Eric Selleck. So OSwego had a 2-0 at the end of one. 2nd period starts and Plattsburgh cut the lead in half on a Kyle Kudrock Powerplay goal. Then the Cards tied the game up on a goal by Vic Schlueter at 16:12. Then all of a sudden with .2 seconds left on the clock in the 2nd period Chris Laganiere  goes top shelf on Josh Leis to give Oswego a 3-2 lead. Tyler Farris and Hank Van Boxmeer got the helpers. Oswego then keeps up the scoring in the 3rd as Jon Whitelaw scores his second of the game from Rodrigues and Lyon at 16:54 and then Eric Selleck adds an empty netter at 17:52 to put the game away at 5-2.

The suprising thing was that the Lakers could only put 14 shots on goal and were outshot 34-14 by Plattsburgh but the Lakers still walked away with the victory. Kyle Gunn-Taylor made 32 saves tonight and allowed only 2 goals although he faced 18 shots alone in the middle period. Now before tonight the last time Oswego beat Plattsburgh in either a regular season game or the playoffs was February 5, 20006 with a 7-6 victory at Romeny Fieldhouse here on campus of SUNY Oswego

Rivalry renewed tonight as Laker head to Stafford to face the Cards

Tonight is the night most OSU Hockey fans have been waiting for. The renewal of the biggest rivalry in all of Division III hockey starts tonight as the Lakers travel to the Stafford Ice Arena in PLattsburgh to take on the Cards. Oswego has not beaten Plattsburgh since February 3rd 2006 with a 7-6 victory at Romney Fieldhouse. The lakers come into tonight with an 0-8-1 record in their last 9 against the Cards including SUNYAC playoffs. The Cards are the defending confrence champs. Both teams come into tonights game off wins last night. The big question going into tonights game for the Lakers will be the goaltending. Last night Kyle Gunn Taylor got the start in net and there is still no word on Paul Beckwith as of this moment. We will see what happens when the puck drops at 7. Coverage tonight will begin at 6:20 with countdown to faceoff where we will go behind the bench with Coach Gosek and will also have Laker Rewind with a recap of last seasons series between the two teams. Then we will have puck drop at 7 from the Ronald B Stafford Ice Arena in Plattsburgh at 7 here on WNYO
